Backstabber Triangle – The Government, PFC. Manning, Wikileaks.com Involved With The Afghanistan Documents
In an event that may go down in history as the greatest reveal and disclosure to the world, Wikileaks.org has released approximately 75,000 classified documents relating to military actions in Afghanistan and the truth that has been withheld, or altered.
The consensus is that an analyst, PFC. Bradley Manning, downloaded the documents to discs and turned those discs over to Wikileaks founder, Julian Assange, for public distribution – though, as of this writing, he has only been charged with stealing and passing a classified video showing the murder of civilians and journalists by an Apache attack helicopter. Whether you support the war in Afghanistan or not, a soldier should not be punished for revealing the truth involving possible war crimes that have been hidden by military commanders and governments.
Governments involved in these documents have, frankly, shit a brick. The United States, Britain, Afghanistan, France, Pakistan and others are horrified that some of their dirtiest secrets have been made public.
As mentioned, PFC Manning has already been charged over a separate leak of a classified helicopter cockpit video earlier this month.
It showed U.S. soldiers laughing as they gunned down Afghan civilians and two journalists in a one-sided firefight in Baghdad in 2007. PFC Manning was picked up in Iraq, where he was working.
Manning is said to be locked up in a military prison after being shipped across the border to Kuwait. He faces trial by court martial and, if found guilty, a heavy jail sentence.
Depending on your point of view, the backstabbing could be by any of these entities. PFC Manning for providing the information to Wikileaks. Wikileaks for making them easily accessible to anyone with an Internet connection. The respective governments for falsifying media reports by not disclosing the truth regarding casualties and the course of the war.
We have spent hours searching through these documents and have only scratched the surface of the deception that has been perpetrated by some governments. Civilian casualties under reported or identified as insurgents. Afghanistan troops being untrustworthy and lying to coalition forces. Pakistan being highly suspected of knowing the whereabouts of major Taliban leaders, including Osama Bin Laden, himself and supporting insurgents with money and weapons. Machine gunnings of buses with only children and civilians. Murdering unarmed civilians on motorcycles. The overall failure of stemming the tide of the Taliban and insurgents.
The secret documents suggest Coalition forces have killed hundreds of civilians in incidents that have never been reported.
The logs detail the toll on civilians – ‘ blue on white’ in military jargon – and reveals 144 incidents.
And the list goes on.
Pakistan Assisting The Taliban
Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence Agency is accused of helping fund, arm and train the Taliban in the U.S. documents.
It allegedly helped train suicide bombers, shuffled money across the border and secretly supported insurgents.
The reports claim the agency from the nuclear-armed country was involved in a plot to assassinate Presidend Hamid Karzai and bids to attack Nato planes.
One note from February 2007 claims militants teamed up with the ISI to poison the alcohol supply of western troops.
Former ISI chief Hamid Gul allegedly sent three men to Kabul in December 2006 to carry out attacks, which never materialized.
Undisclosed Surface-To-Air Missile Possession
A surface-to-air missile strike by the Taliban on a Chinook carrying seven soldiers was covered up by the U.S. military, the war logs claim.
The strike proved insurgents had anti-aircraft weapons far earlier than originally thought.
At least 10 near-misses over four years against coalition aircraft are detailed in the leaked files. One happened as a plane was refueling at 11,000ft.
The extent of the threat was downplayed in public by military chiefs to avoid alarm. There were also fears in U.S. circles that Iran and Pakistan could be supplying the Taliban.
The French Connection
In one incident never before reported, French troops shot at a bus full of children because it had come too close to a military convoy.
Eight children were wounded in the attack, which took place in the village of Tangi Kalay, near Kabul, in 2008.
British Troops Kill Unarmed Motorcyclists and Children
British troops in a determined effort to protect themselves have killed numerous civilians who approached on motorcycles, fearing suicide bombers. Along with those, sixteen children were among the civilians shot or bombed in error by British troops, according to claims in the leaked military logs.
Poland’s Retaliatory Killings Of Civilians
The documents show how Polish troops mortared a village in 2007, killing a wedding party including a pregnant woman, in what was apparently a revenge attack.
Afghanistan Forces Not Trusted
In at least one report, Afghanistan forces who claimed to be engaging Taliban fighters was viewed with skepticism and stated that their report, in which they did not request assistance was likely “lying.” Little faith is put in the Afghan forces, nor are they trusted among the coalition forces.
Colonel Stuart Tootal of the Britsh forces, who commanded 3rd Battalion Parachute Regiment in Helmand Province in 2006, said the documents ‘could impact on the security of our soldiers’.
He said Nato forces in Afghanistan now put a ‘huge emphasis’ on avoiding civilian casualties and played down the relevance of the leak.
Col Tootal told the BBC Radio 4 Today program: ‘I think we have to really caution that this is going to be seen as more bad news coming out of Afghanistan.
Colonel Richard Kemp, another former head of UK forces in Afghanistan. added: ‘It’s potentially damaging to operational security. But I think at the same time it’s important people understand how difficult it is.’
The White House has condemned the leak and claimed that the publication of details from the secret documents could put lives at risk.
‘We strongly condemn the disclosure of classified information, which puts the lives of the U.S. and partner service members at risk and threatens our national security,’ a U.S. Government spokesman told the Guardian newspaper, which published the files.
‘Wikileaks made no effort to contact the U.S. government about these documents, which may contain information that endanger the lives of Americans, our partners, and local populations who cooperate with us.’
What isn’t said is that Wikileaks has actually held back 15,000 documents that they feel could actually put lives at risk. These documents may be published in the future after they have been redacted so as not to put lives in jeopardy.
Considering that the most recent documents released are 7 months old and relates to past engagements we think the U.S. governments claims of our forces being put in jeopardy is an attempt to divert attention away from the lies they have put out to the public.
Indeed, there was a huge amount of backstabbing going on all around, but the worst is from our respective governments lying to us about the overall picture in Afghanistan and specific engagements that took place over the last 5 years.
We are glad to see confirmation of what was always suspected, but never honestly reported. The biggest shame lies with our government, for believing us all to be foolish enough to trust them. Once again, their failure to admit mistakes has undermined their ability to be believed when they might actually tell us the truth about a situation one day.
If thanks needs to be given for exposing the lies of Afghanistan, it needs to go to PFC Bradley Manning. If you believe he deserves support for putting his own freedom on the line, please follow the links given here:
