Civilians Killed In Apache Attack – Military Cover-up

civilian killings new bahgdad by Apache helicopterOn July 12, 2007 two U.S. Apache helicopters armed with 30mm cannons observed a gathering of men that they believed to be insurgents. It appears that at least one might actually be carrying a weapon, however, the pilots mistakenly observed a camera to be a weapon and that camera, with a telephoto lens, to be an RPG.

These videos were leaked to Wikileaks.org, that decoded them and gave them to the world to see. PFC Bradley Manning, a technical analyst with the U.S. Army has since been arrested and accused of passing the video to Wikileaks. He now faces charges that, if found guilty, could keep him incarcerated for 52 years.

As you will observe in the first video, the men seemed relaxed and none of them fired on the helicopters. In the resulting assault 12 civilians were killed. Two of them were Rueters journalists.

While mistakes happen in war and even we can see the possibility of the camera being mistaken for an RPG at one point in the first video, it isn’t only the brutality of war and the loss of civilian life that is disturbing – it is the second video and the lies from the U.S. military command which followed, that causes disgust.

The second video shows a van arriving on the scene and good samaritans, who are unarmed, attempting to remove a wounded journalist. An Apache lets loose with additional cannon fire while the men are loading the wounded journalist. The rescuers were killed and two children were found wounded in the van after ground troops arrived on the scene.

The official military version, before the videos came to light, stated that all the deaths were insurgents who engaged the Apaches. The military also stated they did everything possible to care for the wounded children. In fact, they did not care for them and had them directed to an Iraqi hospital that obviously is not on par with the care they could have received from a U.S. hospital.

As Wikileaks.org brings more government lies to light one can only wonder how much our media shows us is honest reporting and how much information is being suppressed in an effort to convince the U.S. public that we are welcomed and winning the “war.”

If you appreciate the fact that a young American soldier placed his own freedom in jeopardy (if he did, indeed, provide the video) to reveal the truth of what can only be described as a war crime against civilians (assuredly those who attempted humanitarian aid), links are available below the last video.

Be warned! These videos are brutal, uncensored, and may be disturbing.
