Congressman Mike Rogers (R-MI) Calls For Execution of SPC Bradley Manning

US Congressman Mike Rogers (R-MI 8th Dist.) has openly called for the execution of accused Wikileaks supplier, Bradley Manning. Bradley Manning was arrested after leaked secret documents, exposing an Apache helicopter murder video made it’s appearance on Wikileaks.com, more than two years after the attack took place in New Bahgdad, Iraq. That video gave solid proof that the military not only knew of civilians and journalists being killed (along with two children wounded), but that the official story of the killings being those of “ant-Iraqi insurgents” was a blatant lie.

Shortly after the release of the “Collateral Murder” video, 75,000 documents were released by Wikileaks that revealed military lies regarding the war in Afghanistan.

Congressman Mike Rogers’ position shouldn’t be a surprise to Americans who can think for themselves rather than be led by the government hardline Republicans seeking blood for the embarrassing revelations of the video and documents. Similar calls for blood were made when Dan Ellsberg released the secret documents, known as the Pentagon Papers that exposed the lies of Vietnam.

Congressman Rogers call for blood is the least surprising. In the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, according to Rogers own bio page, he brags that he assisted in creating the Patriot Act, which gives law enforcement the tools necessary for invading the privacy of any citizen and removing the most basic of rights guaranteed them under the Constitution. His military career spanned just 4 years and were during the least conflictual of the years 1985 – 1988. His own resume refers to himself as a “people person,” during his service as a U.S. Army officer/company commander, but that could be arguable with his latest rant for revenge.

Congressman Mike Rogers says he supports execution for the soldier involved if he is ultimately found guilty.

This splendid example of humanity is from a man who sits on the House Intelligence Committee, which must surely be some mistake. Not his statement, that is, his sitting on any comittee which uses the word “Intelligence.”

Rogers said that Private Bradley Manning appears to be guilty of treason in time of war, which is a capital crime.

He derided what he called a “culture of disclosure” for encouraging someone like Manning into thinking that the release of such sensitive information was a good thing.

So, to recap, our government states that the documents disclose “nothing new,” that wasn’t already known. Rogers calls it “sensitive information.”

Rogers thinks honesty to the public is something dangerous. That if we are lied to, anyone who shows us the truth should be executed. I can certainly understand why he was chosen to assist with The Patriot Act.

Rogers told his local radio station that Mannings’ actions must have condemned to death many Afghans who assisted the United States. It is hard to see how the leaked documents could have done that as US collaborators were not mentioned.

So far the only people to make the claim that anyone is at risk is the US government. No independent sources, or for that matter the government, has pointed to the specific documents that name individuals.

The number of collaborators at risk is nothing compared to the numbers of people that were “accidentally” killed by US assassination squads because they happened to be in the way of a mission. The number of civilians identified as Taliban. The possession of Stinger missiles by the enemy. The assistance of Pakistan to Al Queda. For Rogers, death is too good for the 22 y/o private who revealed that Pakistan “allies” had built safe havens for the terrorists who were killing Americans.

Manning is currently being held in solitary confinement in Virginia where he may face a court martial or federal prosecution as the investigation continues.

We can only be thankful that Congressman Rogers doesn’t head the FBI. He’d likely have us all lined up behind Bradley Manning.
